Book Review Written by Marina Davis
This is a collection of essays with ten chapters preceded by a foreword by the editors and followed by an extensive annotated bibliography. Each chapter consists of one essay. Essay topics include the different community groups of African people throughout time like the Belanda Hitam of Dutch controlled Indonesia, the slave trade to Asia, and Africans in the Sri Lankan military through its colonial and pre-colonial history, among other things.
It’s a relatively short read – just 170 pages – making it a good quick introduction to the different communities and historical moments of the African Diaspora in Asia.
